Persimmon Ridge is a development anchored around its namesake golf course, located minutes away from the Louisville Metro area in northwest Shelby County. The development was founded in 1988 by developers Elmore Just and Jack Ridge with help from golf course community land planner Randy Heckenkemper. The first homes were built in 1990 under the guidance of Just's wife, Lawren. The course was first planned in 1987 when the community's founders hired famed golf architect Arthur Hills to design the 36-hole course. The first 18 holes were complete in 1988, and the entire course opened for play in June 1989. Since then, it has hosted the Kentucky Open three times, including one in the course's first year of operation, along with many other golfing tournaments. Not far from the community is Long Run Park. the 416.35-acre Louisville Metro Park property includes an 18-hole golf course with an easy front nine and a challenging back nine to help you work on your game. Horse riding trails, biking, tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, picnic areas, and a playground are some of the many amenities available at Long Run Park, all guaranteed for a perfect outdoor outing. The 366,750 square feet outlet mall is a hot tourist attraction for visitors to the Louisville Metro area and is home to brand names like Adidas, Ann Taylor, Calvin Klein, Coach, Gucci, Kate Spade, and many more. The biggest events outside of Persimmon Ridge are the one-two punch of the Shelby County Fair and the Kentucky State Fair. The two fairs bookend the summer months, drawing many visitors to check out various exhibits and vendors, enjoy carnival rides and games, and watch all of hottest music acts on the charts from today, yesterday, and tomorrow.
