Living in Hunting Creek

Hunting Creek is one of the oldest and largest developments in the city of Prospect, and its symbol -- the Hunting Creek Partridge -- is incorporated into the city’s seal. As part of Prospect, Hunting Creek also shares the honor of having the most educated residents in all of Kentucky; 69.9 percent of Prospect’s residents possess a bachelor’s degree according to the 2000 Census.

Motorists commuting from Hunting Creek to downtown Louisville can expect to spend a mean average of 26.3 minutes on the road. Meanwhile, those who prefer mass transit have a single express route -- provided by TARC -- at their disposal throughout the work week. Hunting Creek is generally bounded by U.S. 42 to the west, KY 329 to the north, and Harrods Creek to the east and south. U.S. 42 links the community to I-265 (locally known as the Gene Snyder Freeway) and I-71, giving residents access to downtown Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati, Ohio, and beyond.

Hunting Creek Parks & Attractions

Hunting Creek’s main attraction is the 18-hole, 6,950-yard course at Hunting Creek Country Club. The course -- designed by club member Ben Wihry in 1964 with redesigned bunkers by famed course architect Arthur Hill in 1989 -- has hosted nearly every championship and invitational in the commonwealth of Kentucky, including the Kentucky Open, the LPGA Bluegrass Classic, and the LPGA Bluegrass Invitational.

Aside from golfing, Hunting Creek Country Club offers swimming, tennis, and dining services to its membership, which is by invitation, whether one is a resident of Hunting Creek or not. To the southwest of Hunting Creek is Putney Pond and Woodland Park, a 25-acre tract with a walking trail, waterfall, and rare Kentucky coffeetrees. Putney Pond, dedicated to the son of Betty and Moseley Putney, empties into Harrods Creek, which, in turn, empties into the Ohio River.

Looking to do some shopping? Paddock Shops is a few minutes away from Hunting Creek, as are Oxmoor Center, Mall of St. Matthews, and the eclectic shops and restaurants of the Highlands. There are also a handful of boutiques in Prospect, as well as local restaurants like Bristol Bar & Grille, Burning Bush Grill, Hanabi, Los Aztecas, and J. Harrod’s. Want to cruise along the Ohio? A trip to Captain’s Quarters Riverside Grille is the place to start. The restaurant is home to Harrods Creek Boat Harbor, where the 96-foot CQ Princess can be booked for private dinners on the river, with views of Louisville’s skyline or Kentucky’s natural beauty are but a glimpse away.

Residents at Hunting Creek have a full calendar of events in Prospect alone. The city holds its annual Fall Festival at Little Hunting Creek Park in late October, and rings in the Fourth of July with a parade on Westover Drive, followed by fireworks at Cowley Park, home to the city’s annual concert series.
